Tips for finding a good wedding photographer

Planning and organising a wedding can become very stressful at times, as there is so much to organise, but it should be fun as this is one of the most special times of a couple life together; it is the start of a very exciting journey.

There are many things to organise and an abundance of suppliers from flower to photographers.

So how do you choose the right photographer for your wedding?

  • Always meet the photographers that you are considering for your wedding day. It is critical that you like the person who is taking the photographs as they will be with you most of the day. This is not the day to be having a personality clash!
  • Ensure that you have seen previous examples of the photographers work; pictures speak volumes.
  • Liaise with the photographer before the wedding day so that they are clear about the photographs that you require for the day.
  • Always agree the style of photograph that you like with your photographer. There are many different styles of photography and clarity is the key.
  • If you have any particular photo or style of photograph that you want to be taken or emulated, then take an example to show your photographer before the wedding.
  • If you want all aspects of the day covered, then consider using a company that has two photographers in attendance. Although it may seem like over-kill, the end results are proof enough that you can never have too many photographs.
  • If possible, try and speak with a previous client of the photographer; nothing is better than a personal recommendation.
  • Appoint one of the ushers/bridesmaids to help coordinate the photography on the day. Remember, your photographer does not know all the guests and if there are a lot of group shots required it will help facilitate the day if there is somebody among your guests who is making sure everyone is there when they need to be!
  • Write a list of all the critical photographs that you want taken and ensure that the guest responsible for the photographer and the photographer(s) have copies – leave nothing to chance.
  • Beware of the less expensive wedding photographer…check what you are receiving for the price you are paying.
